These characters are lighthearted and spirited and the only criminal activities they seem to be having other than shooting up is selling camera boxes filled with bricks to people thinking they’re getting a bargain. You know, the type you immediately like despite the fact that in real life you’ll avoid them like the plague. Here Tupac Shakur and Tim Roth play two movie-junkies named Stretch and Spoon. Gridlock’d was one of the three movies released after Tupacs untimely death and is one of the movies that actually require him to be an actor instead of a retread of his gangster persona he had onstage and in his previous two movies Above The Rim and Bullet. And what a bad day it is, but do we have a bad day when watching this? To quote the tagline for the movie: Good time to kick. What follows is a mixed story about the two walking into walls of bureaucracy, drug related shootings and chases, and the fact that their best friend may die. ![]() This exciting film has also won seven more prestigious awards, including a Young Director Award (YDA) in Cannes for Ian Hunt Duffy, and has been selected for over 30 film festivals to date. Some upcoming film festivals include the San Diego International Film Festival Heartland Film Festival Savannah Film Festival and Tallgrass Film Festival.Gridlock’d is a tale about two junkies who on new years day decide to kick it after bringing their OD’ing girlfriend to the emergency room. Gridlock has already won many high profile awards, including Academy Qualifying Awards Best Irish Short at the Foyle Film Festival Grand Prix Irish Short at the Cork Film Festival and now the Best International Short at the DC Shorts Festival. As in every case, the least one you suspect is the one you need to investigate. The situation was dire It was then the father ran away and the “monster” was found calling the daughter’s name. As the ending approached my mind was in circles. I wanted to yell out, “don’t go too far, stay close!” but the criticalness of the moment did not allow me to. While dad began to meltdown, and the stranger began to lead him away I felt dread. I looked in the eyes of the people and observed their behavior, and listened intently to their words, searching for clues. I felt in my hand the tire iron and how bad I wanted that “boot” (trunk) opened. What’s more intense is the “knowing” you have, that everything is not the way it’s supposed to be. One of the most nightmarish events to happen, suspecting your child was abducted had me panicked with the father. As the gridlock continued on I began to, identify suspects, and make assumptions on how this will end and who was to blame. ![]() I breathed the air, and absorbed the mistrustful energy of those around me. I saw the accident and felt the urgency of the situation. I found myself in the gridlock with the people. The intense 19 minutes of this short had me on the edge of my seat. Director Ian Hunt Duffy and producer Simon Doyle’s unnerving thriller Gridlock has been selected to screen at the prestigious Edmonton International Film Festival in Canada on the 6 th of October and stars Moe Dunford (Vikings), Peter Coonan (Love/Hate), Steve Wall (Dominion Creek) and Amy de Bhrun (Jason Bourne).
